The Aureum Standard

Aureum Books was founded on a simple belief: that great work deserves to be documented with care, intention, and permanence.

We create beautifully crafted books that celebrate design, architecture, and the art of home—capturing not just projects, but the vision, process, and people behind them. Each publication is thoughtfully curated, editorial in approach, and designed to stand the test of time.

In an increasingly digital world, Aureum exists to create something tangible. Something lasting. Something worthy of being revisited.

Our Philosophy

Aureum - a timeless measure of value, excellence, and permanence.

At Aureum Books, we operate on a Gold Standard. Every decision is intentional, every detail considered. We believe exceptional work deserves to be presented with the same level of care, restraint, and refinement that went into creating it.

Gold does not fade, fluctuate, or follow trends. Neither do we. Our books are designed to endure, crafted to feel relevant now and decades from now, beyond screens, platforms, and passing moments.

We don’t rush the process or dilute the outcome. Quality is the baseline. Craft is the expectation. The result is a body of work that speaks quietly, confidently, and lasts.

Editorial Leaders

Our three-person leadership team brings clarity and direction to every publication, working alongside a curated roster of photographers, and craftsmen.

  • Founder

With more than 30 years in publishing and marketing, John provides the vision, direction, and steady hand guiding Aureum Books. He believes the best leadership strategy is surrounding himself with exceptional talent—and having the wisdom to recognize a great idea when it’s not his own.

In addition to setting the creative and editorial standard, John reliably handles any and all tasks that Angel and Ava assign him .

A proud father of three and grandfather of two, John is a devoted fan of all Motown professional sports teams (Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings), U of M football (Go Blue), and—most importantly—whatever sport his grandsons Hudson and Ryder happen to be playing at the moment.

  • Creative Director (Unparalleled)

She leads all creative execution at Aureum Books, overseeing graphic design, editorial development, book layout, and formatting. Her work ensures each featured firm is presented with a level of artistry, polish, and distinction that reflects both their unique story and Aureum’s uncompromising standards.

While she couldn’t do it without her assistant Cookie Dough ( Golden Retriever), Angel has a remarkable ability to translate vision into visual storytelling. Creating pages that feel timeless, intentional, and truly worthy of the coffee table.

  • Publishing Coordinator (Extraordinaire)

Ava is the organizational force that keeps Aureum Books moving forward. She manages content research and development, client communications, project coordination, and Aureum Books’ social media presence—all with a calm, capable, can-do attitude.

Fearless when it comes to new challenges, Ava thrives on keeping details aligned, deadlines met, and clients informed every step of the way. If something needs to be figured out, organized, or followed through on, Ava is already on it.

On the weekends, Ava enjoys spending time with her family, slowing down at home, and finding inspiration in everyday moments.

A record of publishing shaped by time, craft, and intention.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my firm have to be based in the Carolinas to work with Aureum Books?

No. While our current featured publication highlights the Carolinas region, Aureum Books is actively developing future volumes that explore a range of regions and architectural styles across the country. If you’d like to stay informed about upcoming opportunities, we encourage you to subscribe to our publication updates. You’re also welcome to inquire directly about a specific region or design focus—our team would be glad to share what’s in the works.

What is the process for being published?

The process is simple and collaborative. After submitting your inquiry, our editorial team will review your work and reach out with next steps. Selected firms participate in an interview and project review, followed by professional writing, art direction, and layout creation. You’ll have the opportunity to approve the final spread before printing. Our goal is to create a feature that represents your firm with clarity, artistry, and intention.

What types of firms are selected for publication?

We partner with architecture, interior design, and home-building firms whose work displays excellence in craftsmanship, storytelling, and visual impact. Our editorial team curates each volume with intention, selecting firms whose projects contribute to a cohesive, elevated narrative around the art of home. If your portfolio reflects innovation, beauty, and a clear design philosophy, we’d love to review it.
